During our Art lessons we have been learning about the traditional Oceanic art form of Siapo. Siapo is a textile made in the South Pacific islands from the pulp of the Mulberry tree and decorated by hand with nature- inspired patterns using natural materials. Siapo is also known at tapa but referred to as kapa in Hawaii and ngatu in Tonga. We created our own unique pattern designs, inspired by well known siapo/tapa. We then created a cardboard block to print our designs before inking them to produce the final design. Here you can see Room 15s creations. Room 14 are beginning their Art lessons this week. |
